johannes

i know the name of the blog is E.Louise but this kid needs some props too! He is 6.5 months old already! We have begun the epic journey of solid foods recently and things are going and not. Poor guy! I think we have found a better combo of sweet potatoes and pears. As the carrot banana was giving him some troubles. The good German doctor that we have seen for the two of them insisted that I feed the boy carrots. To be fair I did ask him to recommend to me what he thought would be best. And he did emphatically suggest that carrots cooked and jarred by the Hipp company was the absolute best you can get. Its a wonder that we don't all just eat baby food. Its sterile, has the maximum nutrient content a food can possibly contain and you don't have to chew...Perfect. So having made ALL of Eleanor's food I thought maybe I would try what the good doc suggested. I went with another brand as the one he gave a nod to had oil in it... Anyway it was a another adventure that carried me away from my previously held convictions. A recurrent theme of life here. I was talking with Mike earlier about my blithe, naive belief that if I found where the hippies hung out in Göttingen, then I would have my social life made. HA! So instead I have been friends with the most decidedly UN hippie of folks and thus my notions have been rocked. I reckon that is a good thing, and the notions that stay fast in all this swaying are those worth holding onto, but man. Give a sister a break already, bada ba gung- straight up.

Tonight at dinner, Eleanor having finished first was cruising around the kitchen. She hid her head behind the chair and popped out saying "guck, guck" and out of nowhere a little, perfect laugh erupted from Johannes. Mike and I were talking about something and the sound stopped us all. What a delight. He has laughed before but this time it was as he liked. Rather, not because we were trying for it. He just found her antics funny, and laughed! Participation. And while I am on the subject, they were in the bath yesterday and played! Eleanor started to kick her legs and then he, she stopped and then he. It started off a little shaky but shortly they had it down. Its really thrilling to see.

We moved to town. This is good. I think I must have stopped blogging because we stopped taking trips...and parenting became workaday rather than some new experience. Don't get me wrong new experiences are happening all the time. Tho I suppose I am a little muddled by them and don't always have something pithy to say regarding said experiences. So no blogging... New resolution is to bring it regardless of seeming insignificance. So to start off my new resolution, the weather here has FINALLY turned nice! But of course as a conversation with a certified German reminded me, it won't last. All of them are more pessimistic than then most curmudgeony old person in the States. This attitude makes the buses run on time, and brings Rumstein to the world, but COME ON. Daffodils are in bloom for God's sake.
